As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? On a service trip in college I had to share a queen-sized bed with a girl I’d known for three hours AND the Mexican woman who was hosting us for the night. The woman did not speak a word of English and the other girl and I spoke zero Spanish. I took one for the team and volunteered to take the middle. I’m hoping some good karma will come back to me through this contest!!! Hahah…

Getting used to sharing showers with 12 other women after sports practices in college was definitely a learning experience, but quickly became no big deal. Now, however, I’m glad I don’t have to shower in front of college women because I’m the professor and that would just be weird!

SHARE ME! Growing up, my slightly younger sister and I shared a small bedroom. Eventually, we decided we were too cool for bunk-beds, so we moved our mattresses to the floor — which took up too much space. So, we stacked our mattresses instead, and two high schoolers ended up sharing a twin bed! :\

Share Me!!! My husband and I have become really good at sharing – we’ve had over 20 different people living with us at different times. We’ve shared meals, bathrooms, and house chores with them all. It’s been fun to have an extended family!

I’m a teacher and today I taught division story problems. I asked the kids to pick 5 friends who they would share a pencil with. More than one kid picked me! Those are the moments when I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Share Me!! I had just got my drivers license and took my younger brother to get ice cream. Driving home he spilled ice cream in the car and I got distracted. I side swiped a telephone pole and knocked off my side mirror. Thinking back we were really lucky but at the time I blamed a messed up alignment and a telephone pole that was only a foot from the curb!!

Visiting my family a continent away, my then boyfriend now husband, and I decided to uh.. ‘visit’ with each other over the phone. Things were going very well when my great aunt walks in on me. She lives hundreds of miles away and just decided to show up that day and walk right into the house without announcing herself. When she died she left everything to my sister with nothing but a humiliating story to tell for me. At least we can laugh about it now.

My sister and I shared a room growing up and had bunk beds. I would always sneak down to her bunk to sleep with her when I couldn’t fall sleep and she would always be able to put me to sleep. To this day when I can’t sleep I think of her and how she would always walk me through on imaginary world to help me go to sleep!

Growing up in rural upstate NY, we shared a phone line with at least three others (known then as a ‘party line’). You’d go to make a call, only to find someone else already talking, and had to wait for them to finish before you could place your own call. As kids, my sisters and I took to eavesdropping and developed nicknames for those with whom our family shared a line based on the content of their conversations: ‘the Saturday Morning Cream of Wheat Lady’ and ‘the Screaming German’ are the two I can recall. I can’t imagine that these even exist anymore…

Share Me. The first time I heard this old folktale I couldn’t eat the rest of my dinner. I can’t believe I’m sharing it with you. My dad tells this old, awful Irish folktale about a little boy in an orphanage who gets one orange every year at Christmas. One year, he is punished for misbehavior and gets his orange taken away. The other boys gather around him and they each give him one slice until he has a whole. If I win I’ll donate my prize to Habitat for Humanity. Thanks for the opportunity!

I was on a business trip and my boss and I used to group in her suite before heading to the buying floor for the day. You know, have breakfast, map out our plan, set our budget based on the previous day’s purchases…All was well until the morning I knocked on her door and she opened it – completely naked. I tried to say I’d come back, but she ushered me in, lay a towel down on the sofa, then sat down to have our meeting. Once she realized I was really not comfortable, she put on a robe. Still – I really didn’t ever need to see my boss naked! She definitely shared too much!

In our house we say “we share everything but germs” to encourage sharing toys, books, etc. but to also reinforce the importance of “covering our coughs and sneezes” and also washing hands. About 3 weeks ago we were in line at Disneyland with our almost 3 year old and a man about 5 people in front of us kept coughing and wasn’t bothering to cover his mouth or cough into the crook of his arm. I was aware that our kiddo had noticed because he was watching him with wide eyes and also saying “Daddy look at the coughing man!” repeatedly and too loudly for comfort. Finally the man turned the corner area of the line and was right next to us, and coughed again. Seems our little guy’s patience was spent, because he shook his head while saying “uh uh” and then hollered ” COUGHING MAN!!! WE SHARE EVERYTHING BUT GERMS!!”. Thankfully the man chuckled about it, because we were in line with him for another 20 minutes.

After my stepdad got deployed shortly after the my baby sis’s birth.We moved in w/my Aunt and I shared a room with my cousin. Though he was 6 years older we were attached at the hips. He had one restriction…his friends were to stay five feet away from me at all times. One night my cousin laid on the bed trying to console my fussy baby sis. His friend(exception to rule), who was visiting laid on my bed with me. I walked to my cousin’s bed to see if my sister was sleeping because she had quiet down. I laid down and fell asleep shortly after. WHACK! I felt an excruciating, stinging sensation on my leg. I scooted across bed in panic, terrified of my sure demise at the hands of the seething man standing in the room with a machete and a gun! Oh but wait, it’s my cousin promising death to his friend and neighbor. Clive shot out of our room and over the fence with my cousin in hot pursuit. Major drama in the middle of the street and no boy looked me in the face as long as I lived on that block. I still loved sharing the room with him though:)

SHARE ME! While watching a childhood Christmas morning video my older sister and I got the same doll. Before my mom could get mine out of the box she got my sisters out. I asked if I could “just hug her” (the doll) and my sister replied “No, what are we gonna do to yours to mark it so we know it’s not mine.” Sisterly love at ages 6 and 4….haha!

In have a toddler. The absolute worst thing for me is having to share a sip of drink with him. I don’t want to say no, because I want to show him that sharing is the right thing, and if he needs to hydrate, well, what kind of Mommy would I be to deny him? Growing up, my family didn’t have a ton of money and my mom was a stay-at-home mom for a bit. I was the youngest of four girls in a three bedroom house with one bathroom…sooo yeah, that mean 5 women (mom included) and my poor outnumbered dad with one bathroom and a tiny house and no space to be alone. I wouldn’t trade it for a minute, I love my family, adore that house now, but looking back I can’t believe we all shared such a small space for so many people. With three older siblings I definitely got a good dose of education in sharing and hand-me-down toys/clothing. It is such a lovely memory really :) Thanks!!!
