Fab Freebie: Sunny Side Up

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries.***

If you’re a Richmonder, you might’ve already deciphered that the Sunny mentioned in this morning’s Reader Redesign is none other than local paint heroine Sunny Goode. Heck, even non-locals with a good memory might have picked up on it since Sunny’s name has popped up more than once on YHL, like when we house crashed this Domino-featured home that sported Sunny’s signature stenciled paint treatment on her floors:

Sunny Give Katie Floor

Or when we dropped in on her store, Sunny’s Goodtime Paints, a couple of years ago:

Sunny Give Store 2

Sunny Give Store

Plus we even got to sneak a peek of one of her newest creations: the floor at the soon-to-be open children’s consignment boutique called Clover located in Richmond’s Carytown district. Sidenote: we’ll be showcasing even more inspiration from this stunning shop soon because it’s chock full of awesome (and doable!) ideas.

Sunny Give Clover Floor

But in case you’re still in the dark about just how talented and inspiring Sunny is, allow us to shine a little light on the subject. Sunny serves up a boatload of tools and inspiration to make your next paint job work a little harder when it comes to creating a more unique, playful, personal, and beautiful space. We know her best for her stencils, color washes, and stains- which can bring some much-needed pattern to a blank floor or wall. But she’s also got monograms, decals, and even two books (Paint Can! and its kid-tastic sidekick).

Sunny Give Product Four

So because Sunny has so much fun stuff to dish out, we’re excited to announce that TWO lucky winners will score an $100 shopping spree. So you have the chance to snag whatever goodies catch your eye on her site the most! And the rest of you will be able to cash in on a pretty sweet discount too (stay tuned for those details on Thurs). But enough jibber-jabber. Here are all the deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Sunny’s Goodtime Paints
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHINE ON ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … help us get the creative painting juices flowing and share your favorite use of paint (whether it’s something you’ve done or just something you’ve seen). Is it a surprisingly stellar color combo? An object that was totally transformed by a few brushstrokes? Or perhaps a painted pattern or stencil that really make the room?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 21st at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Sunny’s Goodtime Paints.

We’ll be painting the mishmash of floor coverings in our house one color to try to get some sense of unity, but what fun it would be to introduce some pattern to keep it interesting!

A friend growing up had a guest room with 6″ stripes painted in a salmon-y color alternating flat and gloss. It was the 90s and I had never seen anything like it!!

I love what a dear friend of mine did in her dining room.
She used shade of olive and avacado green to create diamonds on the focal wall. The other 3 walls remained the avacado color. I love it!

I painted a lamp bright orange to put in my office. It tied in the colors that were in my curtains and pillow shams on my my futon. It was a cheap and easy way to bring in a bright color without make a drastic change.

I have a bookcase that I bought during college that I’ve painted multiple times, most recently “blackberry bramble” purple. Now that it’s new home will be in our home office with a teal and red color scheme, we spent the weekend stripping 7 layers of paint and sanding! Talk about work!

    Shine on Me!!!!

I just discovered your site and am a bit new to the blogging world, and lets just say I’ve had a lot less sleep because I can’t seem to absorb all this great information fast enough!

One of my “paint-tacular” moments was in a store that had painted flourishes in the top corners of the room that sort of swirled out along the wall in different ways.

I love this blog and am so thrilled to have found all this inspiration!

I checked out Sunny’s website and it has amazing things. I would LOVE to use teh stencils in a room and put a monogrammed decal in my master bath.

When we moved into our new house the dining room wallpaper was very blah but it had a textured pattern on it. Instead of removing the wallpaper before painting I painted over the wallpaper with a beautiful red color. From a distance it looks like plain red walls but up close and in certain lights you can see the texture which adds dimension. I love it!

My favorite use of paint is making over an ugly or dated wood finish with white paint and distressing it for a beachy look. It’s simple but makes a big difference!

i picked a pale yellow for my living room, just knowing, somehow, that that was the color that would be perfect, even though there was no furniture yet, the floor had yet to be refinished, and the room i was looking at had curling mauve grosgrain wallpaper and chocolate trim. and the paint color i picked is perfect!

We tried to paint our son’s room with a couple of stripes in high gloss on top of what was supposed to be flat paint (both in the same color), but the person at the hardware store talked me into semi-gloss, so you can’t really see them. I want to paint one wall in our bedroom alternating stripes, (like the tan and cream in your bathroom), but my husband isn’t a big fan of stripes, so we’re going to try the whole high-gloss-stripes-on-top-flat-paint (in the same color) as a compromise.
