Fab Freebie: Supper Management

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

If you’re a busy mom like me – wait, let me start over. If you’re like me and hate grocery shopping, then this week’s giveaway is totally up your aisle. I’ve learned to enjoy cooking, but the chore of making a list, bleeding money at the grocery store and then coming home to find you’ve forgotten the cardamom still drives us to take-out more than we’d like. So imagine my delight when You’ve Got Supper entered our lives.

YouveGotSupper List

YGS was started by two busy moms right here in Richmond (holla) and basically does your weekly recipe planning AND grocery list making for you (double holla). Just sign up for their free weekly email for five easy recipe suggestions. Pick the ones you want to make (or add others from their archive) and YGS automatically generates a complete, printable shopping list for you. Basically, my lifesaver. And this week they’re giving away $100 in groceries to one of our lucky readers who just might need some lifesaving in the kitchen too.

We’ve been using them for a while now, and just last week we made three of their meals that we never tried before: Honey Chicken Kebabs, One-Pot Pork Tenderloin and Crispy Potatoes and Creamy Dreamy Mac and Cheese. Here’s that mac and cheese making Burger wish he were human:

YouveGotSupper Burger

And now for this week’s giveaway deets:

  • PRIZE: $100 gift card to the grocery store of your choice courtesy of You’ve Got Supper
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I WANT SUPPER” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us your favorite way to mix things up for dinner. Is it the classic breakfast for dinner? Or maybe a recipe swap with the neighbors. Or, our favorite, going over someone else’s house so they do the cooking.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the whole wide world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I WANT SUPPER! On a normal basis we like to mix up supper on the weekdays by doing an ingredient search on my Epicurious iPhone app. I do the search while riding the bus home from work and then stop at the grocery store for any misc. items needed to complete the recipe.

On a not-so-regular basis my extended family (brothers and wives, sisters and parents) get together every two months or so and do an “Iron Chef” challenge based on a predetermined ingredient. We gather at one family member’s house with our dishes and then each one is served and judged. We then score each one based on taste, presentation, and originality. It’s extremely fun!

    I want supper!

I mix it up by making a casserole/soup during the weekend and seperating out individual portions that I can take to work for lunch. Saves me time in the morning and saves me money by not eating out.

This post is making me hungry =(

I LOVE doing breakfast for dinner, if I had my way I’d have every meal in reverse each day. Bacon, Egg and Cheese on a bagel or english muffin sounds heavenly right now!

I like things easy – one pot meals, casseroles, etc.
It’s hard for me to get something new on the table every night though, since we’re vegetarians but bad at it. :)

Our favorite way to mix things up is by typing in whatever we are in the mood for in google (like “chicken recipe”) and picking one recipe off the first page. Easy enough and we have found many new favorites.

We used to be boxed people…meaning…we only ate things that came out of box. I started getting Cooking Light and now we mix it up by only cooking recipes on there. We always try something new and we are loving it! This is a great idea for a giveaway and a great idea they had with their site!

My husband and I enjoy doing “theme nights”- we make only appetizers or make pad thai or a mexican meal (fajitas with rice and beans)- keeps us from getting bored and allows us to explore different dishes & types of cooking we may not have tried.

I am also a big fan of hungrygirl.com- it has great healthy substitutions.. some of which I’ve been able to make without my husband ever being the wiser! :)

    I Want Supper!

Joining a CSA a few years ago was a huge help in lifting us out of the recipe rut. (Well what ARE we gonna do with all this arugula and swiss chard?)

We were also vegetarians for a few years, and a subscription to Veggie Times helped inspire some new creations. Even now that we’re back to being omnivorous, we still refer to those back issues a lot.

We like to mix it up. I try to find at least one new recipe a week to cook for the fam. I also like to “try” to re-create recipes we’vehad at restaurants. Our favorites so far are teryaki salmon with wasabi drizzled over it and the “yummy scramble” with eggs, avocado, onion, red bell pepper, tomatoes, and cheese. Delish!!

I WANT SUPPER. When I need a mix-up, or just a quick and easy meal, I go the breakfast route. I am never up in time to eat more than a granola bar during the week, and rarely make a real breakfast on the weekends; so if I want something different I’ll take any veggies in the fridge, slice up some potatoes, mix in some eggs and have breakfast burritos for dinner.

I like to make grilled cheese with a fried egg and then dip it in Ketchup on the nights when I’m too tired to cook something more “sophisticated”. There is very little clean-up, just a frying pan and the plate.

I WANT SUPPER! I like to go “Google Recipes” when I am in a rut – Pick 2-4 items out of my fridge or cabinets, toss them into Google and end it with “recipe” – then hit “Search” and Google tells me what I can make with those ingredients! Love it!
