I just moved into a rented townhome this weekend, so my fall/winter projects are going to be small as I get used to the place: painting my borning IKEA dresser hardware to spice it up, re-installing the curtain rods higher up on the wall to make ceilings seem taller, painting the bathroom, finding a storage solution for the kitchen. All of these, and living with three guys in their late 20s who are slightly cleaning-adverse, should keep me plenty busy!

I’m actually planning on putting a fireplace mantle on one of our walls creating a faux fireplace! It won’t be real, but at least I will have a fun mantle to decorate for all the holidays :)

TALK TO ME: We are currently building a fence to completely enclose our backyard so we can adopt a pooch into our little family. On the next up: hardwood floors (looking at bamboo for price and sustainability) to replace the carpet in the living, dining, hallway, and office – another update that will be needed with a new animal in the family (let’s not forget our three cats).

We are waiting for it to just cool down in Texas so that we can do some yard work. All of our grass is dead since the drought and heat so we’ve been postponing it but I’m ready to do some landscaping that we have had planned for some time.

Phew, as if our summer plans of stripping and restaining two decks, replacing some siding on the house, and renovating our kitchen weren’t enough, fall is going to include new built-ins in the living room plus getting started on completely redecorating our common areas (I should really say decorating since that has not really occurred the two years we’ve been in our house). Needless to say, $500 to Crate & Barrel would come in very handy. :) Fun fun!

I’ll be shocked of any of my list gets done, but:
I’d like to refinish the cabinets in my kitchen (already have hardware purchased) by painting the bottom cabs a moody gray and the tops white. I’d like to add some trim to the cabinet doors to snazz them up, and remove the doors entirely to a couple of cabinets to try out this “open shelving” trend. The ceiling and walls in that room also need to be repainted, and I’d like to replace the lighting (at least over the sink) and possibly throw some of that looks-like-hardwood linoleum over our cracked white tile with teal grout.
The guest room in our home is still basic white after eight years living here, so I’d like to finally paint in there too. I’d like to make a duvet cover and pillow cases for that room, as well.

There are so many projects in the future. New interior doors to replace the cheap, faux-wood doors that came with the house. Also knocking down a front vestibule to open up the living room, installing new light fixtures throughout the house, refinishing the hardwood floors and maybe redecorating my bedroom!
