Fab Freebie: Talk About Home Improvement

*** This contest is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.

You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!

HomeTalkGiveaway1

And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.

HomeTalkGiveaway2

  • PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

Our home’s previous owner installed an indoor door on the back of our garage. I fear if that rotting mess isn’t replaced by the time Kansas winter rolls around, we’ll be in big trouble! So it will be done by this fall.

    Squee- what a great giveaway!

Since we had so many unexpected large bills this year, we had to put off building a patio on our house. Hopefully next year! In the interim it would make me feel much better to update more of the interior with some specific pieces I’ve been eyeing!

TALK TO ME! Organization is next on our list. Since we moved into our apartment a year ago, our extra bedroom has been an office/storage closet. It’s time for full-time office and no more random things put in there. Everything needs to find a place to go or say hello to Goodwill.

Hmm…my main fall project is giving birth to our first baby! We…er, mostly my husband…has done more than enough at our house this summer (putting in fences, a shed, and working through a kitchen remodel), so I think the baby will be enough to keep us busy this fall and winter! ;)

Ideally our two summer projects (painting the exterior of our house and re-seeding our backyard) will be complete by fall and we’ll be able to put flooring in downstairs after we had to rip up the awful indoor/outdoor carpeting down there due to a flood the day before we closed on the house.

My DEFINITE fall project is winterizing our house! We didn’t do a thing last year and hot dang (or cold dang???) we paid for it. As in, omg my energy costs. So now I know that we need to cover up the attic fan vent; I also mean to do some caulking fun and try to get some more insulation up in the attic. We’re very ready to reduce those costs!!!

We’re heading into fall with a bathroom that is only lacking a new toilet, a light fixture and a stand to put the sink on and then we can rip it out and refinish it (hardwood flooring, tile mosaic “bathmat,” sink, wall paint, decorations already in-hand).
