Fab Freebie: Talk About Home Improvement

*** This contest is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.

You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!

HomeTalkGiveaway1

And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.

HomeTalkGiveaway2

  • PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

    Talk to me!

I am still working on my tiny backyard/patio. Put up a beautiful cedar fence. Now just need to figure out what kind of pavers I want to use.

We’d love to make our bedroom a little more cozy — rearrange some of the art on the walls, and add some pillows and nicer blankets to our loveseat and bed.

    TALK TO ME!

Our huge winter project will be tearing up all of the carpet and some engineered hardwood flooring and re-laying 12mm laminate from Lumber Liquidators we got for a steal of a deal. One bedroom is done so far, looks great! Just 3 more bedrooms, 2 hallways, TV room, living room, and dining room left. Phew!!

    TALK TO ME!

We started working on sliding barn doors to section off a large room of our house. That was in May, but it quickly got too hot to be doing much woodwork outdoors. I think we are going to aim to get them done by the end of September. Hopefully this heatwave subsides soon!

I can’t wait for Halloween! It’s quite the neighborhood adventure here in New Orleans with haunted houses and decorations galore. Last year, we stocked up during the post Halloween clearance sales so we are ready to dress our house up to impress!

TALK TO ME! I’m planning to replace my front door (with a door that closes properly and keeps those winter drafts out) and install a new porch ceiling this fall before it gets too cold. This winter we’re planning to replace our countertop and paint our kitchen cabinets and walls to lighten things up and inspire warm thoughts and cooking on those wintry gray days.

    TALK TO ME!

I am so not ready for fall and winter decor. :) I want to revel in every drop of summer first.

This fall we’re tackling our long-abandoned basement TV room, which is really only used in the colder months. It’s been neglected ever since we moved in last summer.
    http://theborrowedabode.com/2010/06/new-abode-part-8-basement-tv-room/

We’re renting, so we’re setting out to make it into a mini movie theater (velvet curtains and faux wallpaper) without installing anything too hardcore. I’m pretty stoked to see how it turns out!

I have some wood lawn chairs that I bought from JCP last year that turned out to be of the lowest quality when it came to the finish (if I thought for a second Penny’s would take them back I would do it!). I’m going to sand them and probably paint them, maybe stain them… we’ll see. But either way, it’s not going to happen until cooler weather arrives.
