Fab Freebie: Talk About Home Improvement

*** This contest is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.

You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!

HomeTalkGiveaway1

And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.

HomeTalkGiveaway2

  • PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

I’m actually painting a mural on my wall! I’m trying to make it look like a dreamy watercolor- kind of like a hipster accent wall.

I can’t wait to paint my new home office (Hubs moved home office to a commercial location so now it’s all mine, ya!), it’s a darkish green now (called boxwood) and I want to brighten it up.

    Cheers!

TALK TO ME! $500 that is some give away. Our big fall project is not that spectacular– we have to re-sod our lawn. Could do it now but water costs a small fortune during the summer. The water use premium ends on September 15 so that is when the job will be done.

    TALK TO ME!

We have tons of projects! Our house still isn’t done being reno-ed, so we still have to finish the master bath (it’s toilet-less and sink-less right now), the office (needs wall paint and a floor), and we’d like to make the backyard a little bit less abandoned-home looking (which is why our shed got targeted for a break-in, so said the police) and able to have people hang out back there. Plus we need to put doors on our closets, pantry, and water heater/laundry nook. Not to mention we need to hang something up on ANY wall – we’re 100% blank right now. Whew!

TALK TO ME!!!! Our fall/winter project is ripping out the kitchen height/width counter in the bathroom that makes it impossible for our daughter to wash her hands or brush her teeth in it without us holding her up to the sink. No safe stool is tall enough to allow her to do it herself. Not to mention the cabinet takes up half of the bathroom and offers horrible storage. Ah….people and their strange ideas.

    TALK TO ME!

We need to finally have our chimney swept (this will be the 3rd winter in this house–and don’t worry, we’ve never built a fire in it but I REALLY want to this year!) and I’d also really like to re-do our old wiring upstairs. That’s pretty ambitious and neither one of those is very glamorous. But on the more visibly rewarding side, I’d like to buy or make some drapes for our family room, which has a lot of sliders with wooden blinds and is hence COLD in the winter.

    TALK TO ME!
We spent the weekend overhauling our living room and office. Since I am a teacher who is back to school this week – I am hoping to continue our home improvement in little bits and pieces this fall. Next on the list : Finish painting newly built master bedroom bookshelves and find affordable new bedding and curtains for bedroom. We have taupe/gold walls and black shelves so are thinking a pale blue or gray color scheme to go with both.
