Yikes, I’ve never wanted a tattoo. Saw the Fireside Cartoon (I think) of the lady who tattooed makeup and got old and the eyeliner was on her cheeks. Obviously an exaggeration, but scared the crap out of me when I was young and have decided to stay tattoo free since!

I have six tattoos in total! I didn’t think I would love them as much as I do! =) My first tattoo was a set of little red strawberries on my right hip when I was seventeen years old (just thought they were cute I guess!); I also have “Mrs. Gates” tattooed on my left hip (a wedding present to my husband), a fairy with tribal wings on my upper back (in between my shoulder blades), “Laurie” in Chinese on my neck (My mom’s name – she passed away when I was two), a star on my toe, an owl on my left forearm, and a butterfly with my daughter’s name on my right shoulder (Madison. I wish I had a half sleeve on my right arm descending down from the butterfly I got for my daughter. I don’t know that I wish I didn’t have any of my tattoos, although maybe I could have made better choices in design, they all represent where I was in that point in my life and hold some sort of significance to me; yes, even the strawberries, they are sort of silly, but to me they represent making an adult decision for really, the first time in my life. I love them all, and wouldn’t change a thing!

I have a hammerhead shark tattoo on my left hip. I’lm obsessed with sharks, hammerheads specifically. I’m going camping next weekend in Boca Grande, and the Boca Grande Pass is infamous for hammerhead sharks (google it). I’m hoping to catch one!
My next tattoo I want to be a sting ray. I adore all things sea life!

I got one tattoo at the ripe age of 18 :) My reasoning: because I wanted to signify my becoming an “adult” in some way (and I don’t smoke so buying cigarettes was out of the question!) It’s a small floral design on the lower left-side of my back I had sketched up in study hall when in high school. I say the 5 petals represent the five members of my family. They are with me for life! I do not regret getting it at all although the pain of having myself branded was terrible!! After nearly breaking my friend’s hands this big, burly guy in leather let me hold his!
