And the randomly selected person who’s starting their new year off with prize is… Jennifer (who answered this week’s question with a Canadian folk lyric – which I had to look up, mind you: “Lukey’s boat is painted green, Ha, me boys!”). Congrats Jennifer!
Raise your hand if you know what a bathymetric chart is. I didn’t before this giveaway, but it’s basically like a topographic map for what lies underwater. But the more important thing to know is that the married duo behind Below the Boat turns these charts into gorgeous, laser-cut, hand-assembled works of art. They’re beautifully intricate and fascinatingly detailed. And they’ve got lots of bodies of water from the east coast, west coast, and even some lakes in between. One of you is gonna win up to $300 worth of bathymetric chart-y goodnesst this week. So… ahoy!
- PRIZE: Any single framed map up to $300 (or any combination of two maps that add up to $300) from Below The Boat.

BOAT ME! I would love to be sailing someplace tropical a la Jimmy Buffet . . .
I use bathymetric charts all the time in the Navy! Very cool
Melissa G says
Boat Me! I’ve been boating all my life, but have never really gone sailing. So, I guess I’d like to sail to Hawaii or something.
Marissa says
Boat Me!!! I’d venture out on a sail boat. My grandfather and Uncle were sailors and we used to spend a lot of time on boats. My Uncle passed away last year, and every time I see a sail boat I think he and my grandfather must be where ever you go when you die arguing on a sail boat :)
Kelly says
BOAT ME ! I love any kind of boat trip!
Anna Kristina says
BOAT ME! I’d probably pick any of the ferries here around New England, because they’re quick trips to fun places like Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard. And the sunset over Boston Harbor and the Cape is exceptional!
Trisha Gibson says
Boat Me!!! Kayaking around the San Juan islands…my absolute favorite trip thus far. I would love to take the kids there soon to see the Orcas.
Jen says
BOAT ME!! I love canoeing and kayaking. My husband and I went on a canoe trip to Isle Royale National Park for our honeymoon. Can’t wait to be able to take our 2 little guys out. Love that map of San Juan Island, WA – we were there for our 10 year anniversary this past summer :)
Abra says
BOAT ME!
Kayaks for me, bigger boats make me motion sick… Sadness.
Susan says
Boat me! Honestly I’m not a fan of boats, so lets go with a bathtub sized battleship! Bubble baths will never be the same. :)
Vonda says
Boat Me!
Luxury cruise would have to be the way to go. I have a little tale about a 3 hour sailing trip that took 24+ hours. Lesson? Make sure there is wind on the day you wish to sail!
Meredith says
BOAT ME! I love taking out my friend’s jet ski on the lake. I would love to win this bathy map because I am a hardcore map enthusiast and I make maps for a living!

Christina says
Boat me! I’m happy on my in-laws pontoon boat on a lake in Iowa :)
wendy says
BOAT ME!!! Well, a cruise with lots of umbrella drinks would be awesome. As would a quiet stream in a kayak, or the bow of a little fishing boat with a good book while my kid fishes…
Really any boat would do just fine !
Amelia S. says
BOAT ME! I have fond memories of the houseboat my husband’s parents had back when we were just dating in high school. I’m not sure what kind of boat I would want – perhaps a pontoon so I could actually handle the thing. And I did know what a bathymetric map was before this post, even if I can’t spell it. ;)
Allison says
BOAT ME! Anything I can ski behind is good enough for me :)
NancyY says
BOAT ME!
A boat with a large staff and someone else navigating would be my preferred option. I guess it is good I don’t boat ’cause that sounds expensive with a big ol’ carbon footprint. But my in-laws boat in the ‘northern neck’ of VA and their town of Colonial Beach is even listing on the piece so I would love to get the Chesapeake Bay item for them!
Jill K says
BOAT ME! I like going out on our boat. We take the kids tubing and make happy memories. That is the best for us.
Samantha says
BOAT ME! It doesn’t matter what kind of boat I’m on… As long as it’s safely headed to somewhere warm this time of year!
natalie says
Boat Me!!! I’d love to take an Alaskan cruise and see as much on land and at sea as possible :)
Angie says
Boat me! How about a European cruise?!?!
rachel says
BOAT ME
I would go out on a 48 foot schooner wooden sailboat in warm water into the sunset :)
Minette says
BOAT ME! A catamaran!

I would choose a sail boat, but I’ve always been fascinated by house boats.

Canoe for sure! My husband and my ‘first date’ was a 4-day canoe trip!
Samantha says
BOAT ME! I would try to be adventurous and use a sailboat…would love to know how…but hm a luxury cruise sounds pretty darn good!
Amelia says
Boat Me!
Living in Minnesota, I am all about the canoe!
Erin K. says
BOAT ME! My favorite is going on a boat ride on Lake Erie, where I’m from. The scenery is beautiful and on a clear day you can see Canada!

BOAT ME!!!
A canoe down the river.

BOAT ME! My husband is from Michigan and we collect maps of the great lakes region…this would be perfect!

BOAT ME…ferry boats are always the most fun (greatest people watching ever)!
Mel says
BOAT ME!
I’m not too sure about this idea, but my husband would love to live in a houseboat!
Morgan says
BOAT ME!
And I’d definitely pick a sailboat. They’re so much more relaxing without needing to run a motor constantly!
Sarah says
BOAT ME! I like all kids of boating, but my first choice would probably be a ski nautique and get some water skiing in :)
Dani says
BOAT ME!! I love some good kayaking!
Becky S. says
Boat Me!!!
Holly says
BOAT ME!!
Sailboat all the way! Mediterranean preferably. I would need a giant hat though…I am too redheaded for too much sun!
Leah says
Boat me!! I’d go with a kayak, love being close to the water!
Jenna says
Boat me! I loved going out on our speedboat growing up.
Kelley says
