After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Born in the 80s, believe it or not I was supposed to be Roxanne. Yes…the song by the Police (thanks for that suggestion DAD!). According to my mum, when she saw me she claimed that I looked like and “Ashley” but wanted a different, more unique spelling.
Ter'e Crow Lindsay says
FABRIC ME for sure. I am so boring in the fabric dept. Florida fabrics leave me ice cold.
Re: my goofy name! Ter’e. Gramatically, it is so incorrect. My parents lived in California and wanted something different. No, I am not French. no, the name is not French. And, no, my name is not Ter. I am just plain ole Terry, only mis-spelled! People either call me Tree or Ter.
Go figure.

FABRIC ME!
My parents were missionaries at the time, so all our names were Bible names that could also be translated into Spanish. Oh, my real name is Miriam.)
Michelle says
Fabric Me!
My parents were really hoping to have a baby boy to pal around with my brother, so my intended name was Michael. Not only did they not have a boy, they had TWINS and my father chose Michelle for me and after a few days, Monique for my twin sister! :)
Michelle says

FABRIC ME!
My dad named me. I looked up the meaning of my name a few years ago and it means “shinto” or “temple” in Japanese. I’d like to point out that neither of my parents are Japanese…

Blythe says
FABRIC ME!!! My name means “happy” and although it is unique, my mom just found it in a baby name book and liked it!
Kim M says
FABRIC ME!
My name was just something my mom liked so she went with it. I have actually always liked my name, so I guess she did good :)
Trisha says
FABRIC ME!
My name was chosen because it is in the same “name family” as my mother’s name- Theresa.
Natalie says
FABRIC ME! My mom always loved Natalie Wood and since I was supposed to be born in December and my name means Chrismas,” it was the perfect choice!
Jannell says
FABRIC ME!
My name is the nick names of my mom’s great aunt and aunt put together. Jan and Nell(ie), short for Janet and Cornelia. Apparently for a little bit, my mom was going to go with just Cornelia. I think they made the right second choice!
Kelly says
Fabric Me! No exciting story behind my name… BUT, my mom almost named me Jaime, after Jaime Sommers- The Bionic Woman. LOL Weird!!!
Jenb says
“FABRIC ME!” My first name is pretty boring, but I think my middle name is 6th generation.
Margaret says
FABRIC ME!
Margaret is a very old name. Sometimes after communicating through email, people are surpised to meet me and realize I’m in my mid-20’s and not 92 years old.
Jessica Kozik says
Fabric me!!! Yeah, finally a giveaway that is a available worldwide!! As far as I know my name means “he sees”. Not sure I like that meaning. My parents chose the name because they just liked the sound of English names (I am German).
Jessica Kozik says
Oh and I am sooo glad, I wasn’t named after my grandmothers (Ursula and Hildegard). I like old fashioned but unless you want your child to be bullied at school, you should stay away from those names :).
Kate says
Fabric me!
No exciting story — my parents just liked it. :)
Janette@The2Seasons says
FABRIC ME
I was named after my grandmother.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my great grandmother and my great aunt, Katherine Martha. If I was a boy my name would have been Drew, not Andrew, but Drew- props to my parents for coming up with that twist!

no cool story behind my name – my parents just picked it because they liked it :(
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
No great story behind my name although I did enjoy growing up in a small town where I was the only Amanda from kindergarten all the way through high school!
Peggy says
FABRIC ME! My parents had just immigrated to Canada and decided that I should have an English name… not realizing that Peggy is actually a nickname for Margaret, they narrowed their choice to Peggy or Violet. My brother, who had also come to Canada with them, said that Violet sounded like a “spinster librarian” (sorry to all the Violets out there — it really is a pretty name) and hence, Peggy is was. Years later, when I was driving around Montreal with my brother, he looked at me and asked “Will you ever forgive me for suggesting that our parents name you Peggy?”. Ha! I don’t mind the name, just the grade school teachers who were convinced that it wasn’t my “real” name.
Sabine says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is Sabine and how I got my name is a bit of a dispute. My mother is German and she says the name is very traditional to Europeans. However, my Father is from Louisiana, and they have a Sabine River there. My mom despises LA so she wants nothing to do with it. As they were crossing the river, she says she remembered the name Sabine (pronounces SUB-BEAN-UH) and decided that was it. My father teases her by saying I was named after something in Louisiana and she always has a minor break down when arguing (in her very heavy accent) that it’s not true!
And no, I never wished I had a different name. I quite like it :)
P.S. I just started sewing so this giveaway is SOOOO up my alley!
Renee says
FABRIC ME!
Dad had agreed that if Mom would have another baby and it was a girl, she could name her Leslie Kay. Leslie was my Dad’s name and Kay was for Kathryn (My Mom’s name). Well, I was born and while Mom was still under (twilight sleep), he filled out the birth certificate Karen Renee. See, Dad didn’t like his name. I always went by Renee and like it. I did however name my second daughter Leslie Kathryn and he was thrilled. Go figure :)
Kelly says
Fabric me! No great stories of my name. My parents just liked it. :)
Sarah Burgess says
Fabric me.
Amy says
Fabric me! my parents wanted a name that wouldn’t be nicknamed. so they named me Amy. it’s worked out pretty well.
Megan says
FABRIC ME!! My dad always liked the name.
Teresa Allen says
FABRIC ME!!!
It was my Dad’s turn to pick my name. My Mom put her foot down when he picked Yvette. So Teresa Vaughan it was. Vaughan is my Grandmother’s maiden name and my Dad’s middle name. He was able to chose that. Lots of family members with the middle name Vaughan! I love family names. My daughter’s first and middle name are after two great grandmother’s.
Mary-Beth says
Fabric me!
My parents named my older sister Sarah Elizabeth with the hopes of calling her Sarah-Beth, which didn’t stick. So when I came along they made sure it worked out and gave me the first name of Mary-Beth :)
Ashley I says
Fabric me!
My name means dweller by the ash tree meadow. Pretty profound, huh.
Caitlin says
FABRIC ME!
My mom saw my name on a locker when my brother was in pre-school. She liked it :)
Sherri says
FABRIC ME!
This is boring, but I honestly don’t know if there’s a story behind my name. If there is, I’ve never heard it. :)
Candice says
FABRIC ME! I need fabric to recover my TV room chairs and footstools because my cats have worn them out!
Katie O says
Fabric Me!
Funny story about my name. My legal first name is Catherine, which both my parents agreed on. My mom wanted my middle name to be Carson after her favorite aunt, and my Dad wanted my middle name to be Rose after his grandmother. My mother compromised with Rose (especially since she was the one pushing for Catherine), until my Dad didn’t show up to the fancy dinner hospitals give you after you’ve had a baby. Then she let the nurse name me! At the time, Princess Diana was very popular, so my middle name became Diane, and I was called Princess Di for quite some time.
Tara says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after the plantation in ‘Gone with the Wind,’ which is Irish for ‘the seat of the high kings of Ireland.’ My dad wanted to name me Scarlett (not cool until S. Johansson came along!), so this was the compromise.
Jennifer says
Fabric Me!
My mom wanted to name me “Janna” after her mother who was “Janet”. My dad vetoed that, and somehow they agreed on Jennifer as an acceptable “J” name. ( I don’t really think it connects to any family members though.)
echo says
FABRIC ME! THANK YOU!
Krista says
FABRIC ME!
I think my parents just liked my name after seeing it in a baby name book or something. I’m just happy I wasn’t named Janae. Because my other family members names are Jane, John, John Jr, Janae would have been wayyyy too much.
Ana says
FABRIC ME!
I am the oldest in a large family and my parents initially started naming us in alphabetical order. A is for Ana. B is for… When it came to the fourth child they couldn’t decide on a name for D so they moved on. I think it was a good choice. :)
jessica b says
FABRIC ME!
There is no exciting story behind my name-my parents just liked it. If I was a boy I would have been Joshua, one of 5 in my small class of 100 kids at school. I was the only Jessica. Never wanted to change it :)
Colleen says
FABRIC ME! And Colleen is just a nice Irish name!
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Stephanie and supposedly I was named after the actress Stefanie Powers (my father’s favorite actress) however notice the spelling (me = ph, her = f)…I came a little early and I suppose my parents were a little flustered so they spelled my name the “normal” way…oh well. I don’t know if it is coincidence, but my dad calls me “queenie” and Stephanie does come from the Greek work “crown.” Fitting I suppose. :)
Ashley C says
FABRIC ME! Ashley is a pretty boring meaning: Ash Wood/Ash Tree. While pregnant with me my mom had a client who had the cutest little girl named Ashley and she thought – ‘that is such an ugly name for such an adorable little girl!’ And then she used the name for her own daughter…guess it grew on her!
