My luckiest house moment was being turned down on the 1st home we made an offer on. The seller and I could not agree on terms. A few months later the house was back on the market for 40k less!! We made the offer that same day and now we are enjoying our beautiful home :)

JOSS ME! I feel like we have had so much luck with this house. The first bit of luck started when they dropped the price by $20,000 a week before we went on our house hunting trip. I had been watching this house online for over a year, hoping it would stay on the market, and here I set, inside my dream home!

Joss Me! My husband and I had been looking for a house to buy in our small town for almost a year. We had literally looked at every possible house in our area. Becaues of when our lease was up and the time it takes to get things in the works for buying a hous, we had about 5 days left to have an offer accepted. We had given up finding a place to buy when the house of our dreams came on the market. We put in an offer, and it was accepted on our 5th wedding anniversary. We just moved in, and this would be an incredible gift!

We don’t own (we rent) – but our luckiest story is that a mere 4 days before we were supposed to move to our wonderful new San Francisco 2.5 bedroom apartment, we found out it was a scam! Okay, that’s obviously not the lucky part. What’s lucky is that our friends came together to help us find the most beautiful backup apartment with only 24 hours notice. It is honestly 5 times better than the previous one, with a great view of the city and a lovely, not-at-all scammy landlady.

    Now that’s luck.

My luckiest home improvement moment was when my mom and I were cleaning out the house my husband and I had just purchased and noticed a vent stack in the back of the closet. We asked our heating and AC guy to check it out and he didn’t know why it was there either. We noticed tiny flashing lights coming from the floor by the vent so we assumed it had a sensor or some electrical involved and thought it’d be way to difficult to address. My husband later went investigating and found a tiny martini light up pin that was sandwiched between the vent stack and floor boards. We were so excited it wasn’t anything electrical and we’ll be boarding up that vent stack in no time!

My luckiest home find is my inherited dresser. My father’s uncle was a furniture maker straight from Sicily. He made a dresser for my father back in 1934 when he was born. That same dresser then held my older brother’s baby clothes in 1964, then my sisters in 1967, then myself & my twin sisters clothes in the late 70’s and now my 2 little boys.
I plan on keeping it forever!

Can I just say that I’m glad you asked to think about lucky moments? It made me think of really how lucky we are! I have to say that the luckiest moment of my decorating adventures has been finding the original kitchen cabinet doors tucked behind a hidden space in our basement. JACKPOT! :)

I would love love love to win this. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the opportunity.

I’m very new to the home-improvement scene, but I’ve been pretty lucky so far! Stumbling across amazing deals, and especially not getting eaten or maimed by my rarely-used-until-now sewing machine, has been great. So have your tutorials, by the way! The curtains you made for Clara’s first nursery were so simple, sweet, and completely customized that I had to try – they turned out really well, so thank you! :)

the luckiest thing that happened to me with home improvement was when i had five layers of wallpaper to remove from the walls in my 10’x20′ living room in preparation for my friend’s baby shower, and we had a week of freak snowstorms, resulting in an unexpected week off work, allowing me to get the wallpaper done. getting to the airport to go home for christmas that year involved a friend with a car with four-wheel drive.

We bought a mid-century modern home (Eichler), and I went looking for furniture to go with it on Craigslist, specifically a dining table. A mere few weeks later, I find one for $100, which came with 6 chairs (although one was slightly broken, but fixable.) Still have it, 8 years later! And now the furniture is more popular, and I could easily get 2-3x the price for the set.
