My luckiest home improvement moment is one I’m working on right now! I got free nightstands 5 years ago from a family friend and decided recently that I wanted to sand down the wood stain and paint it white! I was looking for a really unique and antique looking drawer knob and I found the perfect ones on SALE at Lowe’s! =) Awesome feeling! [I got excited over door knobs… I’m such a geek haha]

We were recently painting our first room in our new-to-us house and we chose a yellow that I thought would be light and buttery. After the first coat it was hideous! We couldn’t decide whether to bail and get another color or to apply more coats in the hopes it looked ok in the end. We ended up applying two more coats and we’re now really happy with it. Whew!

I’m racking my brain trying to think of any “good luck” moments, but we don’t seem to have any luck at all! Every home improvement project we’ve taken on here has been a trainwreck of epic proportions. i.e. – It took three people, two trips to Lowe’s, a complete overhaul of the hardware and SIX HOURS to install the light in our kitchen. No joke. This house fights dirty.

We’ve had many blessed moments with the purchase of our very first home in the past 2 weeks, but one of the luckiest moments we’ve had was on moving day! We live in Charlotte,NC and almost every day for the past 2 weeks has had a heat index over 100 degrees…except for moving day!! That day, amazingly, the weather completely changed and it was inthe 60s…which I know we, and all our wonderful friends who helped us move, really appreciated!

I’ve had soo much luck finding pieces that people don’t want and with a little TLC and paint or upholstery have turned them into beautiful pieces for our home, at a fraction of the cost. We had looked at houses for years and were out on a typical house hunt when our Realtor had to make a turn around in a driveway of a house that was for sale. It was adorable and we decided to look at it. We fell in love immediately, put in an offer, and got a call back the next day saying it was accepted. We close this Friday!

I had moved into a new apartment with an entire wall of windows and had no curtains that would do the trick. Shopping through JCP bargain bins I found gorgeous eggplant panels that were originally $40 but marked down and additional 50% off meant I got them for $6 each! $36 for 6 panels. To boot, I found a perfectly matching swag for $2.75 from BBB (clearance section, of course). It’s 5 years later and the curtains and swag have been with me (different apartments, different rooms) ever since.

My luckiest home find? An antique Tibetan buffet. Appraised at over 1,000, I got it for 300 at a local furniture store. It’s hand painted with the most beautiful colorful design, bringing happiness and cheer to the room, and I love the solid rosewood structure. It’s definitely my favorite piece and I’m looking forward to treasuring it for a long time.
