JOSS ME!! My most fabulous find was the very first piece of furniture I ever bought for myself, a bright Red Buffet Table 5 years ago. I still get compliments when new people visit my house. I think that’s what has motivated me to go bold in my decorating style. That, and following your blog :)

    Joss me! Please!

About a month ago, we found a beautiful 20″ tulip poplar tree on “clearance” in the Lowe’s garden section. It was originally $300 but i bargained them down to $50 plus delivery fee. That was great, and it’s still alive, despite my brown thumb!

My luckiest home improvement moment was when we were able to salvage a basement full of 20″ tiles that we laid in our basement (as first-timers) and left the grout on too long. There was some scraping involved and countless hours on hands and knees with toothbrushes to get them cleaned off, but at least we didn’t have to rip them out!

One of my favorite household items is a ceramic pencil holder I found in a box of things my grandma asked me to throw away. When I asked her about it she said she made it in a high school pottery and added “isnt it hideous?” possibly in 1950 but now I think it is fabulous plus I love the family attachment

haven’t had much experience with home-related luck, since I’m 24 years old and have never owned a home. BUT I did score a pretty sweet pub table made from gorgeous re-purposed wood to the wonderful tune of $100 (found it in Verona, VA at one of my favorite antique malls, 50% off!) If you guys are ever in the area, you should check out that antique mall–I think you would love it…and then drive into downtown Staunton (where I grew up) and eat/shop/browse…I love it there…

JOSS ME, baby! I moved into my husband’s house when we got married. It is small and cute, plenty of space, but the previous owners were old and everything in the house was…old. When I got pregnant last year, my inlaws said “We want to give you a new kitchen, now that you have a baby coming” and we said, OK! The contractor (it’s true, we were both working and couldn’t DIY) finished the day I had my baby. No joke. Lucky, Lucky, Lucky.

We bought our house last year – a fixer-upper that we got for less than market price, because the owner was too embarrassed to put it up on the market! (And rightly so…it really was a disaster, and we saw it AFTER it had been cleaned up a bit…yikes!)

Luckiest “Home” related moment would definitely be opening my husbands garage door and seeing a beautiful secretary desk that was “a bit dirty” just sitting in the middle of the floor. BIL cleaned out an old house and planned to just toss it in the trash–glad I got to it first before he did :) Cleaned it up and conditioned it and it looks great in our dining room!!
