JOSS ME! My luckiest moment was finding a used desk in the basement that my grandfather had made. My mom thought it was ugly so it just sat in the basement unused! When my mom realized how much I liked it, she had it refurnished for me. Very lucky!

I totally lucked out by having a jack of all trades, total handyman husband. He has amazing ideas and takes ideas in his head and turns them into reality. Within days of buying our house he was tearing down a wall, he has added a beautiful deck, changed the exterior to brick, and a lot more. He puts his own spin on my ideas to make them better than I had ever dreamed of. He is amazingly talented!

    (sorry for the sappy!)

Wow, what a terrific give-away! My luckiest was buying my apartment. 6 offers behind mine, but b/c my lender and realtor were so terrific, my offer was first and they worked with me. I was able to buy my dream place for a fair price. SO lucky!!

I had been lusting after a dresser at Pier 1 for forever, and went in all the time to look at it. It was a bit out of my price range at $600 but one day I decided to bite the bullet and buy it. Without knowing, the day I went in to but it, it happened to be on sale for $399! I was quite happy with the deal!

My luckiest moment with my home was actually buying it. After an agonizing search, my husband and I found a beautiful townhouse that backs to woods. It was ever so slightly pricier than we had hoped, so we took a few days to think it over. The market was slow, and no one had shown any interest in the house, so we weren’t worried.

The day we decided to make an offer, we found out another buyer had made an offer and been accepted just a day prior, and that the contract was almost finalized. Disappointment, ranting, and tears abounded. I was convinced I would never find a home I liked again. I couldn’t believe we let this slip through our fingers!

Our realtor called the competing realtor and made her promise to let us know if anything fell through. Like *that* was going to happen. But hey, she was trying to be optimistic and cheerful. It’s all part of realtor training, I think.

One week later, our realtor called us back. “You’re never going to believe it,” she said. “The other buyer pulled out at the last moment for no reason. The house is yours!”

And so it is to this day, much to our delight.

We were really blessed to get the house we’re living in now. It was a foreclosure, was on the market for a couple months, and we’ve heard from many people that they were also interested in it. We came in late to the game, made an offer, and they accepted. We were so excited!

But, then the selling agent then made a mistake, thinking they hadn’t received our paperwork, and the house was put back on the market. Luckily, we re-offered and they re-accepted, despite other offers that had been put in. We finally got the house after months of waiting and sitting on the edge of our seat! It’s a huge work in progress, but it’s coming along and we’re so happy to finally be living in it.

My luckiest home improvement is this amazing mirror I got in college at a yard sale for $10. It’s teardrop shaped with an ornate, scroll-y frame that looks old-fashioned but cool. I would probably have to pay $200 easy to find something comparable in a store today. :)

When we initially made the offer on our house (a foreclosure) there was a bidding war and we lost. Of course, we were devestated. A week later our realtor called saying that the winner had backed out of the deal and the bank wanted to know if we still wanted the house. Best. Luck. Ever!

Once, I was in the mindset that we needed to get a console table for our entryway RIGHT NOW. I had scoured craigslist, emailed the seller to haggle down the price on a particular table, and almost convinced my husband to drive 60 miles away to pick up said table. Still waiting to hear back from the seller, we went on a bike ride and THERE WAS A CONSOLE TABLE in a neighbor’s trash. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, but neither was the one on craigslist and this baby was FREE!

JOSS ME! Not a super lucky girl, but we did head to IKEA once to buy a new dresser and found the exact one we went for in the as-is section for 25% off. There was a tiny chink in it- let’s be honest, I would’ve done that in the first four minutes we had it home. And bonus, it was already assembled!!
