JOSS ME! My luckiest house moment (after miraculously selling our first house in a day in a neighborhood full of foreclosures priced at half or less what we were asking) is catching an unadvertised garage sale at my mom’s neighbor’s house. We scored a Duncan Phyfe-style dining table, 6 chairs, leaves, and table pads for 150 bucks. If we hadn’t found that, I still wouldn’t have any furniture in that room! (This is the same style table, though not our exact one: http://chestercountyantiques.net/drexel_travis_cour_tmahognay_dro.html )

We’re moving this weekend and I CAN’T WAIT to start making our new place into a home. I think one of the luckiest moments in rentership has been that we found the listing for the place where we’re moving about an hour after it was posted. Can’t wait to live there! And be finished with moving!

Luckiest? Hmmm… Well, we found out after taking down the old light in our bathroom (we were moving the light over about a foot) that it had been getting too hot and scorching the ceiling and the joist it was screwed to. So we have been very lucky for the last 10 years that our house didn’t burn down. Pretty lucky, I’d say!

My luckiest home-related moment is happening now! Friends of ours took a temporary job placement in Ireland and asked us to move into their house (rent/mortgage FREE!!) for 18 months while they’re gone. Since we’d been living in my mom’s basement since our wedding in an effort to save up for a place of our own – this was no small blessing!! We moved in in April and we’re loving every minute of it! A few new furnishings would be awesome <3

I found glass fireplace doors on craigslist-they were being given away for free! I snatched them up and cleaned them up, painted them a lovely shade nickel, and saved myself a about $350. Gotta love craigslist!

JOSS ME! Our luckiest moment was driving by an open house of a house that we loved but was $40,000.00 over our budget – the realtor dropped the price within our price range the day before the open house. We went in and had a contract two days later.

Well, it wasn’t one moment, but I’m sitting in my family room looking around and totaling how much we spent on it. The two couches were free, the end table was free, the mirror was $20, the rug was a gift, the flat-screen TV and TV stand were gifts, the coffee table was $35, and the curtains and rod were a whopping $40. So we spent $95 on the whole room? LOL Love it!

I’d say I lucked out when finding our house. I’m an interior designer who loves old houses and our budget was TINY especially for the greater Boston area. I was prepared to look at as many as it took. Apparently it only took 5 (4 disasters first though). Hubby and I walk around the yard first and wanted it even before we saw the inside. Its 100+ years old, but really needs no work, so we can customize it as we see fit (and blog about it of course: http://www.yearofserendipity.com).

JOSS ME! My luckiest moment was putting a bid on a house a day before it went up for auction and having it accepted right away! $35k for a $140k house. The agents said it would have gone for about $100k at auction. Thankful and LUCKY!

Our luckiest house moment was when the previous owners replaced all the knob-and-tube wiring (the house was built in 1923) as part of the sale agreement. Makes electrical work so much easier now!
