The day we went to close the deal on the lease of a new (but bigger) apartment that we weren’t so thrilled about, after the whole conversation, we asked again… “unless you have something else to show us…”. The perfect apartment on my dream location had become available. And now we live in it! If we hadn’t asked for the 100 time, we would not be in our dream place!

My luckiest moment happened just before closing on my house. I rented it for 5 years before buying it & decided to purchase it from my retiring landlords. The water heater blew up & they paid for a new one and the cleanup costs. If that happened after purchasing it, there is no way I would have been able to afford to do that because I was soooo cash strapped from the purchase.

My luckiest recent find was inheriting an old chandelier from my husband’s uncle which we then made fabulous with some clearance shades from Anthropologie! Only $100 and everyone loves it!

The best luck we had was when we bought our house when it was framed up. It had fallen out of escrow. It has a view and we don’t even need curtains in our bedroom. I love it.

After searching for the perfect bedroom furniture and finding nothing but oversized, overly frilly, just plain dated looking things, I was just about to give up when one of the owners of the store I was in asked what exactly I was looking for. “Something dark, modern, and unfussy,” I replied. She then said, “We have a set that sounds like what you might be looking for in our storage building–we haven’t been able to sell it.” Sure enough, it was exactly what I was looking for and I got a great deal on it. Woo hoo!

When we renovated our house, we got a big credit when the county inspector did not require we put in a larger water pipe which the builder thought we would need–we used it on a central vac and we LOVE that!

My luckiest was a couple of months ago when I was redoing our living room and needed a 5×8 (or so) area rug. We’ll only be in this house another year and so I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on the *perfect* rug, just wanted something doable. We were in Lowe’s looking for some lumber, and I thought I’d pop over and see what rugs they had in. They had an almost perfect one on clearance for $25! So wonderful. . .

My most recent lucky home decorating moment was when I bossed my fiance to go grab the giant planters my neighbors placed on their curb for garbage pick up the next day. They were green, plastic and faded and he was so embarrassed to be doing it! Of course, after a little orange spray paint (I know you can appreciate that, Sherdog!) they were good as new. A few days later, I found similar ones on a deal site for $50 EACH! WIN! The “I-told-you-so” fairy maaaaay have made a little visit to our house after that. Hahaha! :)

How fun this is! OMG! I was looking for the perfect red storage bench to go at the foot of my bed. My husband and I went to 3 different Homegoods and 2 Targets in one day and finally gave up for the day. In the next week, I happened into a different Homegoods and found the perfect red leather storage bench that retailed $200; on sale at Homegoods for $100; missing a button (that I totally could hotglue on)… final price – $75!!!
