What a great freebie–wow! My best find ever was probably a really old solid wood cabinet, found all beat up on the side of the road. Put that baby in the bak of the suv, clean it up, stained it using leftover coffee, and now it looks awesome. I get compliments on it all the time & I love bragging a bit about my steal of a deal to anyone who asks!

For me, it had to be my leather couch. For years, I held back – too pricey. All that waiting paid off when I happened upon a shift in inventory and scored a lovely piece at over 60% off. Nice!

JOSS ME! Come to think of it, I could use some home ownership luck… :) No, there was this one time that I found the perfect lamp at TJ Maxx. It was the exact pop of green color I had been looking for to pep up our living room. I love it!

My luckiest moment was finding a nice, neutrally painted home a few months before my daughter was born. Since I was pregnant I didn’t feel up to doing tons of painting and fix-it type stuff, but most of the homes in our price range were in terrible shape and painted in wild, bright colors. I was about to give up hope when we came across the perfect townhouse.

I had always wanted a sectional couch for our living room. However, we had only had hand me downs and thrift sale finds that wore out quickly. We happened upon an advertisement for a furniture store having a huge sale. We ended up with a beautiful sectional and ottoman for a great price. I’m still as in love with it today as when we bought it.

The luckiest home improvement find was when we first bought our house. We happened upon this amazing moving sale in one of the very affluent neighborhoods. They had AMAZING furniture for practically free. The sale was so good we made 2 trips! Some of our finds included 1910 solid pine filing cabinets for $10 each. We looked them up online when we got home and found some retailing for $750!

My all time great decorating moment would have to be the random day my husband was looking at foreclosures online and called me at lunch and said go look on this site at this house. I loved the bones of the house but it desperately needed help- before long all our family was saying NO way and we were saying Heck ya! 4 years later we are still living here and the house is great! I still love decorating and adding to our first dream home!

My luckiest home related moment was finding a 1950’s sideboard on a local craiglist-esque site. It was exactly the right size for a space I wanted to fill, had plenty of storage and was solid wood meaning the sky was the limit when it came to re-doing it. The best part– it was thirteen bucks!! When I found it there was the total sky opened, angel’s sang moment!

We were very lucky when furnishing our first home by finding most of our light fixtures and hardware either on sale at outlets or scouting sales at our favorite stores (both local places and chains such as Anthropologie, Pottery Barn, Ballard Designs etc). It pays to do research, become friends with the sales clerks and find out when the best deals are occurring.

After finding our first dream home, we found out that it had already been sold. We kept looking, but couldn’t seem to get the first house out of our minds. Early one morning, my mom was searching the MLS sites for house listings, and the dream house popped up; the sale had fallen through and it was back on the market. We put in an offer and its been our home for over two years now.

My lucky symbol in my house is a frame with 16 pressed four-leaf clovers (4 rows of 4 to quadruple the lucky power!) My mom had an uncanny ability to find four-leaf clovers. I asked her to collect them for me so I could frame them. I don’t necessarily believe in the superstition, but they do make me smile.
