My luckiest find was actually due to the kind-hearted generosity of a Craigslist seller. In college, I was furnishing my first apartment. Scouring Craigslist, as so many of us do, I came upon a vintage Plycraft reproduction Eames lounge chair and ottoman. It set my heart a-flutter and they were only asking $50! I called immediately and offered them $60 (an extra $10 to hold it for a day while I tracked down a vehicle) and they agreed. The following day the seller told me that he was not sure what he should do as he had recieved offers of up to $200 for the set. I told him that I understood if he needed to sell it for money, but $60 was all I could afford (I was a poor college kid). Heartbroken, I hung up the phone and continued my search for furnishings. About an hour later, the gentleman called me back and said that he had decided that I could have the chair and ottoman for $60. I borrowed a friend’s car and was loading up the set in no time flat. I have never been more excited about a vintage find.

I think the luckiest moment with our house was we had our back porch roof replaced (which had been leaking for years, but we are broke, so it stayed as was) right before we had a huge storm, which surely would have caved the entire roof and porch in.

We got a sweet, great-condition matching couch and loveseat for free if we could get them that day. So we borrowed a truck and picked those bad boys (or girls, maybe…they’re eggplant color) home! Four years later, they’re still in great shape :)

JOSSSSSS MEEEE******Our luckiest moment was last summer after just purchasing our first home together as newlyweds! We had to renovate the kitchen badly so we decided on an IKEA kitchen which was cost effective and offered the same 25 year warranty on their cabinets that Home Depot had. For a FRACTION of the price! When we received everything via home delivery, more than half of it was damaged in someway or another. So they offered to upgrade us to their top of the line cabinets for no cost and picked up everything else that we originally purchased for all of the inconvenience!!!***** (I emailed Sherry a few weeks ago and told her that joss&Main was the site that had your beloved ceramic dog that you guys lost in a freak accident!) My luckiest moment was realizing that the cruddy drywall work in our house is actually a cover up for wall paper. Some not so smart people before us used joint compound to try to hide wallpaper and then painted over it. Below the wall paper is some awesome walls, and after some serious elbow grease they are going to look great. Much better than having to replace 7 rooms of drywall.

Our luckiest home moment was finding our dream home without even looking. We were bored one Sunday and driving around the ‘rents neighborhood, when we saw an open house. I didn’t want to go in beacuse it looked “too nice” and had a water view, so there was OBVIOUSLY no way we could afford it. Fast forward 2 weeks and we were homeowners! My husband knew the Realtor, and after the open house we managed to work out an awesome deal. The sellers loved the fact that we were a young couple, and were willing to work with us. Here we are 9 months later, and up to our necks in renovations… but it’s worth every penny!
