    JOSS ME!!

I have two very lucky home improvement moments. First a family member found (for FREE) an antique iron head board and foot board that my in-laws then had powder coated and is now my youngest daughters adorable bed! The second was when we royally screwed up our kitchen back splash by not pre-sealing our marble before applying a red grout color. (Please envision now a crime scene in my kitchen and many tears over my biggest $11 mistake EVER!!!) After acid washing and scrapping grout out several times and re-grouting with a neutral color the final look is amazing with red hints here and there and it can not be duplicated again! Not that I would want to.

We got lucky with the house that we just bought, which sat on the market for a year. Our realtor said the owner was just always on the tail end of price reduction, but we lucked out in getting it at a very reasonable price AND all our closing costs paid AND a rate buy down AND all of the major things fixed. :) Now if only we could snap our fingers and have all the reno projects done!

Love your site to pieces. Very inspiring!

When we moved into our home there were antique wooden crates used to hold materials using in the construction of our 1950 house in the basement. They are unique to this home, and some have the name of the town we live in on them and our address. The crates are creatively stacked on our front porch and filled with house plants.

Our luckiest home improvement moment was finding a house that had been completely renovated on the inside-new tile, new wood flooring, new toilets and bathroom fixtures- and a blank canvas on the outside. We have an acre of dirt to play with and couldn’t be happier to be outside planting trees vs. inside laying tile!

I found a cowboy print chair/ottoman that I had nearly died for a few years earlier (but was too rich for my blood), at a school benefit sale for $150. I scooped it up and enjoyed it for about 5 years – and recently passed it onto another thrify person to enjoy.

Joss me! My luckiest moment hasn’t really been a moment at all – it’s been most of my life. My ancestors owned a furniture factory specializing in antique reproductions…and now the reproductions are antiques too! I have so many pieces just waiting for a place to go! I’m so lucky!

So my husband and I were looking for a sofa bed for our office/guestroom/den, and we didn’t want to spend more than $1,000. We were having a difficult time finding anything in our price range, especially something we both liked. Then we stumbled into a Pottery Barn OUTLET (with a Williams Sonoma Outlet on one side, and a West Elm Outlet on the other – glorious) and found a great one on SALE at the OUTLET for $914! Brand new! It was wonderful. Now if I could only get a wonderful dining room table for $50!

JOSS ME!! :) My husband and I spent almost a year trying to find a home, at the beginning of our search, we put an offer on a short sale, but it wasn’t ready to go through so we put it to the back of our minds. We went on to search to no avail, when we get a call up asking us if we were still interested in the house. We said yes and everything ended up working out instead of us possibly settling for a different home that wasn’t the style (Craftsman Bungalow) we wanted or the price we preferred. I felt and do feel very lucky and blessed.

my luckiest moments in the home improvement department have been when sherwin-williams has a 40% off sale. they have great paints & i wouldn’t be willing to spend that much on painting our house otherwise.

Our luckiest moment probably sounds really selfish, but it was selling our condo exactly when we did. We knew that two units on our street were in default, and if we couldn’t get out before the foreclosures went through, we probably wouldn’t be able to sell at all.

I’m not quite sure what my luckiest home improvement moment is, yet. We have lived in apartments my whole adult life and are about to downsize into a 440 sq ft apartment in NYC. So, it’s bound to be an adventure! I did manage to snag a fabulous console table from my parents’ house that we painted a sleek grey – love it!

I have this book shelf that I bought from target a while back, it’s a dark espresso color, anyway its in the corner of my living room. A few months back I was getting so sick of looking at it, is was too dark and depressing and it was weighing down that corner. It needed some sprucing, so I contemplated painting it, but I wasn’t sure that would work. Well one day strolling through target luck hit me right there in the gift wrapping section. I found the greatest apple green Floral wrapping paper, which now looks perfect on the back of my bookshelf. I now love looking at that corner.

Oh and the other luckiest moment might be finding our house in the first place. We looked for a long time before finding just the right first house :)

Our futon frame in our first apartment broke, and we were scratching our heads trying to figure out if we could get a frame sans futon mattress (ours was still perfectly good). Later that week my husband woke me up to run grab a futon frame someone had left down the block with a free sign taped to it! Perfect size, exactly what we needed.

I purchased our chandelier over our staircase from Home Depot. I stalked it for five months, and finally bought it for $44, marked down from $250!

My best dumb luck purchase was a set of three variously sized dressers and a matching nightstand, solid wood, painted royal blue for $40. FOR THE SET! I guess it pays to go to Goodwill’s grand opening and buy coffee for the volunteers. And look hugely, miserably pregnant too. ;)

I had just bought my house and done a ton of renovations before moving in. I had saved up a furniture fund and went to the outlets to see what I could find. I was expecting to find some throw pillows or maybe a lamp. I ended up with 4 lamps, 2 rugs, 2 chairs, a set of bookshelves, and two tables! And I didn’t even deplete my furniture fund. Best shopping weekend ever!
