Joss me! My lucky break recently was when I found my six (!) awesome, sturdy, cute dining room chairs for a song at a local antiques store. Someone had upholstered them in christmas fabric (!), which is why they weren’t moving, I think. But some pretty fabric and a staple gun fixed that problem, and I love them!

My luckiest home improvement deal was convincing my husband to redo our living room. I know it’s not as great for resale as a kitchen, but you would not believe how much we use the living room now, and how much safer it is for the kids now that our t.v. is now mounted on the wall and we got rid of our room-width brick hearth. Now we have built-in bookcases, a gas fireplace, new tile, wall-mounted t.v.— it’s wonderful!

Joss me! We found our house just a few days after it had been dropped $100,000 (yes, there are supposed to be 3 zeroes there!) It was a foreclosure, so it wasn’t listed on the MLS. This was good, because it meant not a lot of people knew about it. The day we put it in our offer, there were 2 other offers, but we were chosen! We got really lucky!

We got very lucky when we thought our dishwasher broke, but realized before calling out a service guy for $80 that the d/w is hooked up to a switch…that somehow got turned off. We flipped the switch back on and, voila, d/w works again!

Really, the only thing good to come of our apartment is the fact that I’m a property manager, and over the years instead of getting increases I was able to finagle them down in our monthly rent. Aside from that it’s hot as heck, our neighbors suck, and we are bursting at the seams!

    Hey $herdog,

Is there any way I can get some information on the animal shower curtain and bibs? I love the fabric and would like to be able to find it somewhere. Like, maybe do you know the brand name of the products? or even the maker of the fabric?
    Thanks!

JOSS ME! Our offer was rejected on a foreclosed house and it just devastated me. Until we found a far better home, just 1 month later, for even less! (1 month after buying our home, the other bank asked if we were still interested, because they’d “changed their minds”…… um, no thank you! 4 years later I’m still so happy that the first house fell through, because this one rocks) ;)

I put an offer on my condo 3 hours after it was put on the market! I had been looking for a place for a few years and hadn’t found “the one”, until I got a call from my realtor saying that I HAD to come down to see this one. And she was right, it was my dream condo for an amazing price.

I would love to win a shopping spree, so JOSS ME!

My husband and I just moved back to our home state and bought our first house. I wish he had a lucky story about our first home. It seems to be one bout of bad luck after another for us, though. We keep finding little “surprises” in the form of home improvements that the former homeowner decided to leave for us to fix. He apparently figured it would be better to do quick fixes for the time being and leave us to do the real renovations. Our luck has come in the form of family for us, though. We were very lucky to be stationed back in our home state near both of our families. We are so grateful to have their support during our adventures in first-time homeownership, and we are loving every minute of owning our first home.. Bad luck and all.

My husband and I found our lively mid-century bi-level before it even went on the market! Our realtor hooked us up with a showing while the owners were on vaca. When it went on the market, we jumped all over it and got it. Now I’m sitting in my still-unpainted living room loving it up!

We got really lucky when our apartment raised our rent by like $100. We first thought it was really unlucky, but it prompted us to start looking at houses. We found one that we love, in the neighborhood we wanted, for less than we would’ve been paying in rent. :)

My husband and I are newlyweds and had spent the better part of our engagement and some of our marriage waiting around for a short sale we found and felt was worthwhile. Unfortunately, the plans fell through and I just wanted to give up looking for a bit. Until I convinced myself to just look once more and that is when I found a bigger and better house that was just listed! We have been here since November and I fall in love with my house everyday. Everything truly happens for a reason.

My luckiest home improvement moment– I decided I needed a large mirror for a wall in my living room, but I was disheartened by how expensive all the really large mirrors I loved were. The DAY AFTER I was complaining about this, I drove past a garage sale, made a quick U-turn and picked up an awesome 6’x3′ mirror for $10!
