    JOSS ME!!

I continue to have lucky moments since the moment we found our house! First off it was on the market for approx. $30k than anything comparable so that was amazing! After that, we decided to look for a new couch for our livingroom, found a perfect barely touched one at an estate sale, talked them down to $275–and sold our old couch for the same amount on craigsist two weeks later!! THEN, while remodeling our kitchen (we painted our cabinets to save money) we stumbled upon an old piece of cabinetry at a thrift store that was a perfect match, and we were able to extend our counter tops an extra 3 feet thanks to that little purchase! Can’t wait to see what our next lucky surprise will be ;)

Our luckiest moment was discovering my grandmother’s first cousin was the architect of our newly purchased 1960’s ranch….and then discovering the ORIGINAL blueprints which the previous owners passed along to us were in mint condition. Oh yeah, we framed ’em!

Hmm… well, I did find a TON of stuff for free for our baby’s room. I re-purposed, re-painted, and re-beautified it all. :-D Didn’t hurt that MIL bought us our crib, and FIL bought us the jogging stroller… ;-) Love designing on a dime! Thank you for the inspiration, Guys! Can’t wait to show you! :-)

While on vacation in Venice, we were having dinner at a restaurant that had great original art. Since we ordered so much food and wine the waiter brought over 3 prints. The artists was also eating dinner there that night and signed each of them. Free art! Awesome!

JOSS ME! We needed a big mirror for over our fireplace, but they were all so expensive… one day I was walking our dog, Walter, and I came across a huge mirror in someone’s trash! It was in near perfect condition, so naturally, I walked my dog AND the mirror straight home!

My best deal was for two years wanting a new front door that has the fan-shaped windows at the top … waiting, waiting … one day – BOOM! – it’s on Freecycle, I jump on it and get the thing! It is just this weekend installed on my house, letting light into my previously very dark foyer. And I love it!!!! Being thrifty and all like that, I now need the 500 Big Bucks to spend at Joss’s place … and thanks!

See the door at http://www.Redo101.blogspot.com if you’d like.

I am currently working/obessing over what might be my best home improvement moment. After finding a home I absolutely fell in love with, I learned I was outbid by another buyer the morning I went on the house tour. I was crushed but kept watching the status to see if I might get a second chance. I did! Three months later the original bidders backed out and now I have my bid in. Just need to sell my current house first.

The luckiest house find I have had was about a month ago. I was looking for an unique china cabinet for our dining room. And came across one on craigslist. I contacted the seller and it ended up being this cute older couple named Joe and Josephine. ( My fiance and I are Chris and Chrissy ) we had a good laugh about it and agreed to a pick time. We went over and got talking even more about ourselves and come to find out she was a former teacher and was supervising student teachers at the University I had just recently graduated from for Education. We had so much in common, so she decided to just give me the cabinet since she said she knew we would give it a good home. It had been her mother’s antique cabinet and she loved the fact that we are new homeowners and we would give it new life (They were retiring and downsizing ) I just love to look at that cabinet and think of the wonderful story that went with it and how sweet the former owners were.

We’ll see how our home improvement luck holds up. We are scheduled to close on an 87 year old wreck of a house in another month. Everyone thinks we are crazy, so send anyone reading this I need good karmic energy more than the gift certificate! But, it would be cool to have money for stuff other than plumbing and electrical.

Back in the day, we rented a house from someone we knew and he said we could do what ever we wanted to the house, which was a blessing because that allowed us to get rid of the country blue and peach wallpaper on the kitchen walls and paint the kitchen red and yellowish gold color that gave the area a Tuscan feel.

The luckiest moment for us. Is being able to get roofing material for free. My husband is currently laid off of work. We are in need of roof replacement(starting to leaking from ceiling. A company that was going out of business in our area put all the materials for roofing outside with a free sign. First come deal. My husband heard about it at the right time and was able to get shingles to redo the entire house. What a blessing!
