And the luckiest home improvement moment had to be when our guest bathroom vanity found us. It was a sold out home depot special buy and a month later there happen to be on sitting in the middle of the isle just waiting for us. And still at the same price! I wrote all about it here – http://materialsneeded.com/materialsneeded/archives/BeforAlmostAfter_06.09.11.php

I don’t own a home, so I don’t have any super exciting lucky home-moments, but I did find a $300 rocking chair that I had been wanting for over a year on our usually boring and skimpy credit card reward site. I don’t know what made me think to look, but I’m so glad I did! Come to think of it, we also used rewards to score a kitchen aid and “grown-up” grill. Those were pretty lucky finds.

One of my luckiest home improvemet moments was finding a bunch of sandstone pieces in the throw away pile at a rock supply place that we used to landscape our backyard (we faced 2 raised planters & now we’re working on the fire pit)! It’s going to look awesome & it was FREE!

We’ve since moved to Raleigh, but I think our luckiest moment was when we lived in Richmond. My husband found this incredible 1920s rental house in Carytown–less than a block from the Byrd Theater–on Craigslist. We arrived to the open house early and staked it out in our car. Every time someone drove down the street we were sure that we would to have to fight them for “our” place. Turned out, we were the only people to show up and were “exactly the kind of renters they hope for” so they took down the open house sign within the hour. It was ours! We couldn’t believe our luck. (That might not be the kind of home improvement you were referring to, but it was a home and a huge improvement compared to the soulless Glen Allen apartment we’d been living in…)

My lucky moment… the week my hubby and I found out we were pregnant with our first baby, I found a Jenny Lind style changing table on the curb a block from our house! Although he thought I was crazy, I dragged hubby down the street to pack it in the car and put it in the garage. Baby is due in December, and we are getting started with the transformation: a new coat of paint and new shelves. The funniest part was when my mom came over to help me unload some things into the garage, before we were sharing that we were pregnant, and I had to deny/lie to her and tell her I didn’t know that it was a changing table – ha! I told her I just found it and thought it was cute and I could “make-it-over”. It was definitely LUCKY and a find I’ll never forget!

JOSS ME! Our jossiest moment was definitely our house. 6 months pregnant, wasn’t sure how to fit a babe in the 2 bedroom @ home apt we were in. My parents were searching for a property to gain a tax break and found our little nugget of a home in our city! Perfectly renovated 90’s home with just enough cozy for a little bambino and a few more one day to come!

My luckiest home ownership moment was getting not one but two offers on the first day we put our beloved starter home on the market. Proof positive that all our hard work paid off! Plus it felt good to know that whoever got the house was going to love it as much as we did.

We are blessed to have recieved my grandmothers hutch and dining room set when we moved into our first apartment. Thinking about painting it black so that It would look more updated and contemporary, but appreciate the history of family meals around that table. Maybe few (or more) contemporary axxessories would help us out!

I was a lucky person who found my perfect house the day it went on the market. Or, rather, my realtor found the house, emailed me, we went to see it that night, and I put an offer on it the next day! It’s a five year old house in an urban neighborhood of 100+ year old houses, except it was built to fit in perfectly. I love it!

When I moved into my apt I found a framed out piece of wood above the fireplace and I thought that a piece of metal art would look good in that space. I went shopping for something above the fireplace and at the first store I went to I found exactly what I had imagined!

Joss Me, me, me!!!! Our lucky house moment: We saw this house, peeked in the (unoccupied) windows, fell in love with the possibilities. Found out in the morning it was sale pending :-( 8 weeks later, very late at night, surfing the listings with a realtor friend (not our agent), we stumble upon this house again, it had been re-listed just 40 minutes earlier!! Called my realtor, made an 8AM appt to view the house, and signed the offer papers within 10 minutes of walk-thru!

JOSS ME! Our luckiest moment recently was on an exterior project. We have a decent amount of land and no trees, I know, NO TREES?! We were ready to shell out a small fortune for privacy and shade and randomly came across a local nursery. The owner was so sweet and gave us a ridiculous deal. Compared to the giant home improvement stores and over priced landscapers we were able to save enough and use it towards building a deck:) It’s also luck the trees are surviving this crazy hot weather on the Eastern Shore!

We figured we would move back from NM to Louisiana and then find a house while renting!! Well, our current home is the dream home! It was on the market a week, ihas a very open floor plan, has wood floors throughout, real wood doors, tile kitchen counters, a redone master bath, textured walls throughout, and in our favorite neighborhood!! We had to have it and did I mention it was totally within our price range!!?? We feel so lucky
