I always love a good find at a flea market or garage sale…my best has to be a vintage (ca. 1950) avocado green arm chair with great upholstery nail details rescued from a dumpster and passed on from friend to friend during moves.

We got lucky when the realtor we were referred to was out of the office for the week and we ended up working with another guy in his office. This was only lucky because he was planning on selling his second house (he rented it out to family) the summer we were hoping to move so we were able to buy it directly from him, before it ever went on the market!

Our luckiest home improvement item is a vintage chair that we were given for helping a friend move. Although the chair has an interesting orange and cream floral pattern, it is the focal point in our living room, and everyone who comes into our place loves it.

My luckiest find was definitely my little house! It sat empty just around the corner from the house I was renting. It wasn’t even listed when I called a realtor and asked about it. It turned out to be cheap and ugly…but only needed surface work. That’s right up my alley! It has been the best thing that has ever happened to me.

JOSS ME! My luckiest home improvement moment wasn’t finding the home of my dreams…but the man of my dreams. We moved from Virginia to Ohio and bought a 1950’s ranch that essentially hadn’t been updated since, well, 1950. In the last 18 months my husband has proven himself to be extremely handy as he gutted and turned our compartmentalized kitchen and living room into a great room, installed hardwood flooring and is currently updating our (no longer pink tiled) master bathroom.

JOSS ME! Luckiest home-related moment = figuring out how to rearrange a bedroom (and remove the light fixture on our ceiling fan) so we were able to keep our antique canopy bed in the guest room. This was when we had our first kiddo and had to do a bedroom switcheroo. It sounds WAY less exciting than it actually was!

    Joss Me! :D Please?
WE lucked out getting this house when we did. We sold our house a little over a year ago and weren’t quite ready…we thought with the market the way it was that it would take a while. Well, someone bought it and we had nowhere to go, we found this house and got in it within days of needing to be out. :whew: And they had just painted the whole interior of the house before we moved in, and the color isn’t bad! :whew again: hehehe…

JOSS ME!! I wanted a gorgeous headboard at the thrift store, but it was $40 and I’m cheap. I waited for the color tag sale AND had a $5 off coupon and got my dream headboard for $15! Some white paint later it’s my favorite thing in the house.

I’m glad that you asked us to say when we’ve been lucky – I’ve only been in our new home for 6 days and I keep thinking of how I’ve been unlucky (drunk carpenter, flooding washer, unskilled painter…) but really, I’ve been very lucky. I’m lucky that I get to own a home, live with my wonderful husband, nest for our baby together – and I’m lucky we got this home (put in an offer 2 hours after it went on the market), that we love the paint color (even if it is poorly applied), that my mom was able to come help me organize my new kitchen (she’s a genius!)… I’ve been very lucky. Thanks for encouraging me to focus on the good!

My luckiest home moment came when after months & months of looking we finally came upon just what we wanted, went to look 1st day it was on market, made an offer & moved in a month later! Three years later I still am in total love with it.
