Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

Furnish me! When we moved into our house, the previous owner left an amazing mid-century chest. It’s my favorite.

Oh Lordy what a rad giveaway! My favorite piece is a vintage midcentury modern sewing table that my husband and I found at a thrift store. We refinished the wood top and painted the rest a happy golden yellow. We recently moved and now it’s sitting dismantled in our living room along with 20 million boxes waiting for its next home.

Though we own other more valuable pieces, the one item I can imagine myself enjoying no matter where or how we live is our giant red leather couch, which, curled up on, always makes me feel like I’m in a fancy foreign car–so luxurious!

I love how functional my sectional is (and comfy!) and I love how worn and full of memories my table is. I also love it’s cute claw feet :)

    FURNISH ME!

I really like our dining room set—well, actually, it’s not that great. But I love that my husband and I refinished and reupholstered it ourselves. It was a great project to work on together and the finished result was WAY better than what we started with, though you can tell the re-do was homemade when you look at all closely.

But I’m also in love with the chairs in our living room. We got them for 50% off thanks to a miscommunication with someone who was supposed to be reupholstering our (much cheaper, smaller, uglier) chairs. They kept the old ones and we got these beauties, which we could definitely not have afforded at their full price!

FURNISH ME! My greatest piece is the Metro Desk I bought at Target two Christmas’s ago with the mad money my FIL gifted me. Is that terrible? My husband is finishing up his PhD and we will be moving in the next year, so I haven’t really bothered to invest in any long-lasting pieces, since I know we probably won’t be able to move everything, but I really love this desk, and it will definitely be making it into the moving van. At the very least it will make a really nice console table.

Furnish Me!!! I inherited a wonderful secretary from my Grandmom and we use it for our downstairs bill paying/mail organization center. Ok, really it has a bunch of papers on it that I need to file but the great thing about a secretary is you fold up the table, the mess disappears and it becomes a sweet focal point near the front door :)

    Furniture me!

Honestly, I don’t love anything I own. We’re still living a-la-broke-college-students even though we’re many years down the road. I guess if I had to pick something though it would be my daughter’s dresser. It belonged to my brother when he was a baby 40 years ago and survived the other 3 children in my family to finally to passed on to my daughter.
