***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***
Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!
You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:
-
The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
-
The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
- A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
-
The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
-
A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
- The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)
- PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

My grandmother gave us her lovely, old “dry sink.” My husband can never remember what it is called and always invents names for it like the “soap dish” or the “dry bar”

I love my buffet in the dining room. I got it from Overstock. It matches the room perfectly and the glass doors are a great way to show off the fancy china without exactly displaying it like a museum collection.

FURNISH ME!! The greatest piece i own is a little wooden stool that i found in my mom’s garage and it was my very first paint & upholstery project that turned out pretty cute and not to mention very functional. We use it evey morning to sit and put on our shoes to start the day. Oh, i painted the legs white and created a padded seat and covered with yellow & white chevron fabric.

The greatest piece I own right now is a wall full of IKEA bookshelves – cheap maybe, but perfect for the purpose. My books aren’t picky, so neither am I.

FURNISH ME!!!
The most treasured piece of furniture I own is an a German shrunk that my parents purchased in 1984, while stationed in Germany for the US Army. This piece of furniture has been in the background of so many family photos, videos, and childhood memories. When my parents divorced, I begged to take it off their hands. Even though it has never really fit the rest of my home’s decor, I just can’t part ways with it. One day I’ll be brave enough to give it a facelift. Any ideas, Sherry and John? :o)

My husband and I are still in the process of home-ify-ing our house, so the furniture is a little hodge-podge…but, my favorite piece is probably our entertainment center – which my husband and dad built together last summer.

FURNISH ME! My best piece is definitely the hand me down dresser that was my mom’s when she was a little girl. I just refinished it and added new hardware. So nice to have a piece of her childhood in my house. :)

Furnish Me! How could I not want every item featured in this give-away??? It’s so cool that the Good Bones, Great Pieces gals are doing this. I bought the book and dreamed over it many a time. My fave piece I have right now is an old wooden office chair from 1914 – we refurbished it to it’s original glory and now can’t part with it.

FURNISH ME! What great prizes!!! Hmmm, best piece…I would say a “hall tree” that was handed down from my parents. It is a bit old and rickety, so it can’t handle heavy coats. We use it mainly for decor, but we also put hats and scarves on it and it has a mirror, so that is functional. It is dark wood and antique. Love it!
