Fab Freebies: Them Bones

***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***

Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!

You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.

GoodBonesGreatPieces

So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!)  so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:

  1. The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
  2. The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
  3. A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
  4. The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
  5. A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
  6. The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)

Good Bones Prizes 2

  • PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

My favorite piece of furniture is my bed. It’s the only piece in my house I splurged on, and it truly feels like home when I live 2000 miles from family!

My favorite piece is an antique chest from the late 1800s that my mom inherited. She had an iron base made for it and we use it as a coffee table. My husband and I just bought our first house in January and are having so much fun decorating it!

    FURNISH ME!

We picked up a 40″ Moroccan brass plate/table at an estate sale. The decedents’ children were at the estate sale and told us that their parents bought the plate in Morocco in the 30’s and traveled home with it (like a suitcase, because shipping was not what it is today). Not only do I love the style, but I love thinking about its former owners and what interesting people they must have been.

FURNISH ME! My best investment so far has been my vanity. I love love love it. It was super ugly but my sister talked me into getting it – she has an imagination and an eye for what things can become. We painted it sleek black and now it is beautiful and vintagy. A great combination!

best piece was a loveseat sofa with flared arms with sage green fabric and little black stars that I got in NC furniture store– unfortunately my cat loves the fabric more than the pristine untouched scratching post next to it. He has turned it into a string sculpture. cue the music.
he has been saving his pennies for a new sofa and thinks the giveaway would be purr-fect!

    FURNISH ME!

My favorite piece of furniture in our house would have to be…this super cheapo library style bookshelf in our kitchen that I put my cookbooks on. Its white, from JC Penney, and nothing fancy, but its light and functional and I love to cook. We just moved so you’d think maybe one wouldn’t bring that thing into her all new cherry and granite fancy kitchen but no, there it is, with my keys on top.

FURNISH ME! My current favorite piece is a $35 coffee table that I bought in college. After a couple years, I lent it to my husband(then boyfriend) to use in his college apartment. Since getting married, we both get to enjoy it all the time. My husband and I refer to it as Ethan, because we pretend it was from Ethan Allen.

I have this dresser that my friend’s parents gave to me (for FREE). I thought it was just an old dresser but when I got it home and really looked at it, it was actually an old baby changing table – the top folds out to lay your baby on! It just surprised me and it my favorite piece in the house.
