***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***
Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!
You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:
-
The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
-
The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
- A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
-
The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
-
A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
- The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)
- PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

I inherited a beautiful glass-fronted cabinet from my great-grandmother. It was hiding in my parents’ basement and I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was after a good cleaning. It holds all of the things my fiance and I have collected over the years, as well as some beautiful sturdy books in the bottom shelf.

My favorite piece of furniture is my L-shaped desk that is 6’x6′. I like it because it gives me a ton of space and I assembled it all by myself. (And disassembled & reassembled when I moved it to a new room.)

FURNISH ME! My favorite piece of furniture is antique Chinese sideboard/buffet I bought in our last weeks in Asia (courtesy of the military). It sang to me then, it sings to me now and makes me crazy-happy for the way it looks and for the time in our life it represents.

FURNISH ME! Somehow I was lucky enough to end up with a gorgeous victorian sofa that belonged to my great-grandmother. Though it’s desperately in need of a re-cover (it was last redone about 20 years ago, in a very 90s teal green) I LOVE it and am still thrilled every day to see it in my living room!

FURNISH ME!!!!
I found a huge, solid wood dresser on the curb. It looked horrible with the drawers falling out and all. I begged my dad to load it up in his truck and he did. Now it is a beautiful T.V. console that looks like it was ordered from P.B. Everyone asked where I got it, and they are shocked when I say “on the curb!”

FURNISH ME….please.
We actually have a couple of pieces that we love. I have my grandmother’s hutch and a china set that my dad bought her for Mother’s Day while fighting in Vietnam.
The other piece I love is our entertainment center. We don’t watch much tv so we didn’t want it sitting out all the time. It actually has a motor & will raise it up when we want to watch and then get it out of the way when we don’t. LOVE IT!

First of all….I can’t believe that this giveaway hasn’t reached 10,000 yet. AMAZING GIVEAWAY!! About the furniture…I dont own anything that I am beyond thrilled about. My latest purchase was a $75 CL dresser that is SOLID as can be that I painted white for my daughters’ “hollywood regency” room. I am still building my decor and havnt yet found that piece that is my “most favorite piece ever.”
Rebecca says
FURNISH ME! My favorite piece is a Craigslist find – an ugly china hutch from the 80’s that I spraypainted, lined the back with black and white fabric, and it looks GORGEOUS! My favorite favorite piece in my house currently holds orange and red dishware and I get so many compliments on it!
Keara says

The greatest piece I have is my grandmother’s beautiful antique wing chair.
Olivia says
FURNISH ME! I love the hutch that we found at Cort furniture for a steal. Cort rents out furniture, and after it has been rented twice, they sell it at a cut-rate price. We had been looking for a hutch that had an open space across the center for a buffet, and we ran into Cort on a lark. Love this piece, although it is a pain in the neck to move, soooo heavy.
Mitsy says
FURNISH ME! I love the antique hutch we got off of craigslist, beautiful patina, and best of all, lots of storage.

$20 6-drawer vintage dresser from a yard sale. It’s actually how I came across your blog too! The dresser had a bad paint job and was a little beat up, so I image searched the net for similar dressers for inspiration. It’s almost identical to the changing table in Clara’s room, and it was that dresser post that I came across that made me a dedicated Young House Love reader.
(The dresser ended up sanded and stained. I thought about painting the drawers, but once I took the old paint off I discovered the top two drawers had brass accents – a fun surprise!)
Christy says
FURNISH ME! My favorite piece of furniture is one handed down from my grandparents that we refurnished.

FURNISH ME! My favorite piece is an old workbench I found in the basement of our house when we moved in. It is the first piece I ever repurposed, so I think that’s why I’m so attached. I painted it out, replace all hardware, added some baskets and it’s a great piece in our master bedroom.

FURNISH ME! (Love this giveaway, btw)
I bought a jam cabinet while I was pregnant. It was a NIGHTMARE to get home (including not fitting into the car or back up car, being tied to the roof of a car, and then making it 30 minutes in a rain/snow storm). But I refinished it and now it’s in my baby’s room housing his books, some toys, and other knick knacks. It’s my favorite thing ever.
CaitlynP says
