***This giveaways has reached it’s cap of 10,000 and is now closed – see who won below!***
Wow, you guys really have an appetite for great pieces! After less than 24 hours of giveaway madness, we have crowned our random winner as… joyfulcanary (whose favorite piece is a tie between her $30 thrift store China cabinet and her great grandmother’s Hoosier Cabinet). Congrats on your big win!
You don’t typically think of chemistry students writing home design books, but then we learned one of Sherry’s brother’s old classmates at Columbia wrote “Good Bones, Great Pieces” with her mother. It’s a beautiful book about how to combine seven essential elements, er, pieces of furniture in any room for a stunning result – and they’ve got a blog with even more eye candy too.
So not only are Suzanne and Lauren McGrath giving away a copy of their book this week, they’re also hooking up one of you with over $3,000 worth of furniture and bedding (!!!) so that you’ll be right on your way to achieving some of the looks shown above. Here are some of the “great pieces” you’ll be scoring:
-
The Hazel Settee from Jayson Home & Garden ($1,995)
-
The Navy Shop Chest from CB2 ($399)
- A rectangular Atoll Mirror from Ballard Designs ($199)
-
The Cadman Chair from Pier 1 Imports ($199)
-
A Queen-sized Light Indigo coverlet from John Robshaw ($420)
- The Hydrangea Dec Pillow also from John Robshaw ($155)
- PRIZE: A copy of Good Bones, Great Pieces plus over $3,300 worth of furniture as described above.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “FURNISH ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … what you consider to be the “greatest piece” you currently own. Did you splurge on a killer dresser once upon a time? Or maybe you inherited a vintage demilune table? Perhaps you happened upon the perfect bench at a yard sale one weekend?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 18th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Good Bones, Great Pieces.

Furnish me! The greatest piece I own is my late grandmother’s hope chest I inherited a few years back. Even though it isn’t exactly my style, I love having a piece from her that she had almost her entire life.

Furnish me!! The greatest piece we own…maybe our hand-me-down table that we painted to match our kitchen. It’s not that great either!
Sarah says
FURNISH ME! One of my favorite pieces in my house is an old red cabinet I found at an antique shop that’s currently in my kitchen holding a lamp and vintage tray – it inspired me to carry the color red throughout the rest of my home, when I actually didn’t care for red much before, and I’m thrilled I took that chance, because red is great!!
Amy Wilson says
furnish me! Our current favorite piece is an old record player (huge piece of furniture) that was my grandmother in laws.

FURNISH ME!!
Oh my gosh I need furniture so badly!! My favorite piece is a West Elm day bed that acts as our couch. The upside is that it’s tough for our cats to ruin bc no upholstery means so claw marks, but it offers next to nothing in terms of back support.
Oh man I really hope I win this one!!
xo,
Ashley

Furnish me! Please, Ma’am!
My favorite piece is our Ralph Lauren Henredon Chesterfield sofa in camel herringbone bought on huge sale at Belk Home Store in Greenville, SC, the last day they were open. I sat myself down on that baby until my husband finally came around looking for me. Lots of people were coming back with their fabric swatches from home and all I could say was, Sorry, it’s sold! (And I was polite enough Not to say, Reaally? It’s camel, people… If you had to bring fabric swatches to match it, you don’t deserve it?).
Gina F says
Furnish Me! Nothing too exciting, but we bought a 3 piece vanity set from IKEA years ago and the best thing is that it has been used for everything over the years – a computer table, a vanity, a kid’s art table, 2 different benches, etc.
Thanks!

Not long after we got married, my husband and I made our own fabric covered headboard. It’s definitely been awesome to rest our heads on something soft…but it’s also super sentimental to us both.
Jessica says
FURNISH ME! My favorite piece is our west Elm bed we got for 75% off because of a ding in the back of the headboard…the side that is against the wall. Score!

My best piece(s) are two matching chairs with gorgeously scrolled arms and legs. They were nabbed at a garage sale for $10, after languishing in the owner’s basement for 20 years. A boldly patterned grey-and-black fabric and several days of hard recovering work, and they’re the pride of our living room!
